Know Your Motorcycle Boots

Know Your Motorcycle Boots

When choosing motorcycle boots, they have to protect you while you are riding and if you happen to have a mishap, plus they need to be comfortable enough to walk around in once you get to your destination. You also need to consider the type of riding you do. Manufacturers make boots for different types of riding.

Motocross Boots

These boots should protect your feet and legs from the rough riding motocross riders do, plus they should protect the rider from the weather. A good motocross boot will have the best protection in the rear and main sections of the boot, and in the toe box. The boots should be made from full-grain leather and other high-quality materials. Buckles for closure systems should be high-impact. Because you may be riding through water, the boots should have gaiters. When riding motocross, your feet are always flexing, so these boots have steel shanks in them. Finally, motocross boots should have torsion control bracing systems and removable footbeds.

Adventure/Dual Sport Boots

Dual sport boots are a cross between off-road and on-road riding boots. They should be waterproof – or at the least, water resistant. The soles should be non-slip and good for all types of terrain. The inner liners should be breathable to keep your feet comfortable and to keep them from sweating. The exterior of the boot should be full-grain leather and other top-quality materials. The footbeds should be replaceable. And, because they are dual sport boots, they need to protect your feet with internal molded protection areas, steel shanks and a good closure, whether zippered, Velcro or buckled.

Sport Bike/Track Boots

Riding a sport bike could be dangerous, especially on the track. The boots for this type of riding need to be able to handle high impact blows. Sport bike boots should feature toe sliders that are replaceable, torsion control, a contoured heel with ankle and shin protection, extreme abrasion resistance and a buckle or zipper for the closure. Additionally, sport boots should be lightweight yet strong. Double or triple stitching, ventilation, shock absorption and built-in shift pads help make this boot safe.

When you’re cruising, you’re likely to run into some inclement weather. Thus, cruising boots need to protect your legs, feet and ankles from crashes, plus they need to protect your feet from the weather and other road hazards.
